June is National Soul Food Month, a celebration of theculture, heritage and traditions of African American foodways.
Cookbook Author Adrian Miller, also known as the Soul Food Scholar, defines soul food as a traditional African American cuisine that combines the ingredients, culinary techniques and traditions of West Africa, Western Europe, and the Americas. He believes Black southerners took soul food to other parts of the U.S. during the Great Migration period (1910-1970).
